Australian Design for 20 years

Design, Style, authenticity, utility, meaning, fashion, durability, beauty

The Corban & Blair brand has been created by cousins Gillian Corban & Amanda Blair. In 1988 they created a niche in designer stationery with unique collections they initially made by hand themselves. Nearly 20 years later their approach is still hands on and fashion orientated combining environmental considerations for utility, durability and recycling.

They are leaders not followers. They launch two retail collections a year as well as design unique products for the business sector.

Corban & Blair are passionate about what they design and are constantly searching for new ideas and concepts to add value and meaning. Ideas could be derived from nature, technology, other cultures, materials, textures or intuitive responses to the market place.

Many people provide ideas into the product development process; these include-members of the team in sales, marketing, production, graphic design, finance, agents and customers.

Achievements

Corban & Blair branded products are sent to customers all around the world.

Over the years they have sold in Hong Kong, Taiwan, USA, Korea, France, Holland, Sweden, New Zealand, Canada, Japan, Singapore. Stores such as Lane Crawford Hong Kong and Barneys New York, Tokyo.

Corban & Blair held a licence for the Sydney 2000 Olympics and made products for retail as well as designed unique items for international corporate sponsors.

They also design especially for the corporate sector in Australia and overseas - marketing and presentation folders, tenders, restaurant menus, room compendia, corporate gifts and special items to reflect a client's message and image. Their clients want something different and to stand out in the market.

Corban & Blair are a brand stocked in David Jones department stores located in major Australian cities. Their products are also found in key lifestyle, design, home wares and book stores.

In collaboration with Sydney ideas company, Left Field Enterprises, Corban & Blair has created a unique game, 'What's Your Story?' using photographs of family and friends. These cards stimulate conversations and encourage the sharing of life's significant experiences. This has been followed by a suite of similar conversation products.

Treasuring Images and Stories

Beautiful albums full of photos are wonderful objects to have and to hold. They are objects grabbed if disaster befalls. They are objects mourned if lost or destroyed. They are objects to reflect on, enjoy and relive times we would probably forget without the records they contain.

Corban & Blair albums are hand bound in papers and board using traditional book binding techniques unchanged for centuries. They combine many other materials often fashion orientated, which could include book cloth, material, printed papers, leather, metal wood to name a few.

The fly sheet is the first page and can be used to write on or apply calligraphy. The dry mount albums have black archival pages with protective interleaving. All albums are suitable for traditional or digital photographs. Photos can be mounted into albums with photo stickers, photo corners or archival glue. Coloured or metallic pens look great when used to write captions on pages. Album refills are available. Usually albums come shrink wrapped to minimise packaging waste.

For Gillian & Amanda, photo albums, journals and frames filled with memorabilia are powerful tools for evoking memories. They are a connecting thread between the past and the present, a record of experiences kept safe to share with future generations.
